Residency Cie L'Art Nak

The 2026 Finalist Christian Padilla will be in residence at Tollhaus, Karlsruhe (Germany), from 28 July to 9 August.

Don Baltha is a project blending juggling and Afro-Surrealism, inspired by the artist's own experience: as the only Black child at his school, he was always cast as King Balthasar in the Christmas nativity play. From this experience of having an identity imposed on him, he questions the place of non-white artists in today's cultural landscape.

Biography

Christian Padilla trained at the circus school of Quito in Ecuador, then in France at the circus school of Amiens and the Académie Fratellini. He performed with several companies in Ecuador (Circore, Alerta Naranja, and Cie Circulo), and he is currently performing Vetus Venustas with Cie Ciclicus. In 2022, he co-founded L’Art Nak with Étienne Chauzy to develop his first creation, Don Baltha.
