Traces

Rope

Traces questions the marks that humans leave on their environment, the power dynamics and the need for control over non-humans. It seeks to create a shared ecosystem between performer, space, and matter – landscapes that emerge through their dialogue. Using clay, the body, and aerial rope, it evokes images of conflict, destruction, care, harmony and creation.

Biography

Hristina Šormaz discovered circus and specialized in aerial rope while studying scenography in Serbia. She trained as an artist through non-formal education, artistic collaborations, and masterclasses in circus and contemporary dance. Exploring various physical practices became a way for her to question the relationship between humans, their environment, and society.

Since 2018, she has been pursuing doctoral studies in scenography, investigating the use of space and matter from a circus perspective. The project Traces forms part of her PhD research. As a member of Cirkusfera, she has participated in several creations. She is also working as an assistant on the creation Anitya, L’Impermanence by Inbal Ben Haim.
