Cirko
Since 2002, Cirko – Center for New Circus has been working to promote and develop contemporary Finnish circus. In 2011, the Cirko circus building opened in Helsinki’s Suvilahti – 1,400 square meters of office and performance space, custom made for contemporary circus.
Cirko showcase high quality contemporary circus performances which attracts over 25,000 visitors a year. It provides circus professional with first-class working environment and rehearsal spaces around 20 professional groups benefit each year. Besides, it runs a year-round residency program which encourages and helps emerging and young circus artist to develop new contemporary circus works.
It used to conduct the region’s largest annual festival of contemporary circus called Cirko Festival, which worked as a platform for Finnish contemporary circus showcases. They now run the Nounous festival.
Cirko is also internationally active in the field of contemporary circus through various networks (Circostrada, Baltic Nordic circus network).
