CIRCUSNEXT PLATFORM JURIES
National pre-selection committees
60 personalities, cultural professionals, artists and circusnext Platform members, gathered in 11 national committees to carry out step 1 of the selection process: the National Pre-selections.
National pre-selection committees for selection 2024:
Balkan region: Croatia/Serbia · Baltic region: Lithuania/Latvia · Belgium · Germany · Finland · France · Italy · The Netherlands · Portugal · Spain · Sweden/Denmark
These committees are organised by circusnext Platform members who are fully aware of the state of the art in their countries. They invite cultural professionals and artists from their territories to join their committees for this first step of the selection process. The committees examine the artists’ applications from their respective countries and select up to 5 projects (10 projects for the committee in France, due to the greater number of applications from that country) for the next step.
The jury for the European Selection of Finalists
24 cultural venues and festivals from 15 European countries take part in step 2 of the selection process: the European Selection of Finalists.
Jury for the Selection of Laureates
8 artistic personalities sit on an artistic jury for step 3 of the selection process: the Selection of Laureates.
CIRCUSNEXT PLATFORM BODIES AND THEIR ROLES
circusnext Platform members
24 venues and festivals from 15 European countries · FIND OUT ABOUT PALTFORM MEMBERS
Throughout the selection process, circusnext Platform members are present alongside the artists, by hosting them in residency, organising performances and meetings with audiences during presentations of works-in-progress, workshops, etc. They showcase artists from other European countries, thus contributing to the internationalisation of their professional careers.
They raise awareness among political decision-makers and the general public by promoting a high-quality contemporary circus that is representative of the diversity of circus creations.
They take an active part in the life of circusnext Platform through collective meetings, reflection on the programme, and by communicating about the circusnext project and its label.
circusnext Platform members take part in all steps of the selection process:
- 1st stage – National pre-selections: They organise and participate in the national pre-selection committees in their respective territories, with the aim of identifying artists-authors with unique and original writings.
- 2nd stage / European selection of Finalists: They examine all the pre-selected projects, discuss them and decide on the selection of the 12 Finalist projects of the year.
- 3rd stage / Selection of Laureates: They do not take part in the decision-making process but do take part in the Selection of Laureates days: they attend the presentations of work in progress on stage and meet and discuss with the artists and other invited European professionals.

Members of the Artistic Jury are involved at every step of the selection process:

– Step 2 – European selection of Finalists: All Artistic Jury members take part in the discussions and debates but do not take part in the decisions.
– 3rd stage – Selection of Laureates: Based on stage presentations and individual interviews, the Artistic Jury members work towards a consensus to select 4 Laureate projects from the 12 Finalists.
The coordination of circusnext Platform
Coordination is provided by circusnext’s team based in Paris. Its role is to coordinate the entire European “circusnext Platform” programme. Regarding the selection process, in consultation with the other bodies, the coordination defines and implements all the steps in the selection process. It guarantees the framework for each of the steps but does not take part in the artist selection decisions.
