ORLANDO - partition trapéziale

Static trapeze

Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando (1928), Alice Langlois wonders where today’s Orlandos are. Isn’t she an Orlando herself?

Without ever touching the ground, a slow, continuous movement of suspension unfolds on a trapeze with a three-metre-long bar. This piece is a liminal space, a place where the freak meets the bird. A topless physical exploration reveals the spaces between movements and the details of the flesh. Through the metamorphoses of the body, Alice questions preconceived ideas that set tenacity against delicacy. An invitation to reverie, to a hypnotic journey where a sense of uncertainty emerges, somewhere between beauty and monstrosity.

Biography

With a love of climbing trees and feeling the void beneath her feet, Alice instinctively chose the static trapeze. This suspended space became her nest, her intimate hideaway.

In 2020, she joined the preparatory program at the Lyon Circus School. From 2022 onward, she continued her path at the Centre national des arts du cirque (CNAC) in Châlons-en-Champagne.

Through the creation of a trapeze with a three-meter-wide bar, her suspended landscape unfolds. Her physical research, centered on slowness, explores the metamorphoses of the body. She develops an iconographic writing on the trapeze in which every detail matters. ORLANDO is her first creation.
