Kulturzentrum Tollhaus Karlsruhe

Tollhaus Karlsruhe was founded in 1982 by Bernd Belschner and Britta Vehagen as a socio-cultural centre. From its beginnings as a small stage in a former slaughterhouse, the centre has grown into a multidisciplinary venue hosting music concerts, dance performances, theatre, comedy, and circus shows.

Alongside its annual programme, Tollhaus organises three festivals: Zestival (music concerts), the street theatre festival Platz da!, and the contemporary circus festival ATOLL. Additionally, Tollhaus co-produces circus creations throughout the year and runs workshops, forums, and exhibitions on a variety of themes, including culture, politics, and social issues.

Tollhaus’ programme and activities attract over 150,000 visitors per year. The organisation is an active member of national and international networks such as LAKS Baden-Württemberg, Creole, Initiative Neuer Zirkus Deutschland, and Circostrada.
