Salar la pena
THE PROJECT / A hybrid project between circus and poetry, Salar la pena brings a body in crisis to the stage. Through handstand, contortion, and voice, it explores failure, loss, desire, and everything that connects the sacred to the monstrous. A liturgy of cleansing and emptying, a call to the beyond.

porque la pena
como la carne
primero se sala luego se limpia luego se guarda
la pena no se va
la pena se guarda
the sorrow
as the flesh
gets salted then washed then saved
the sorrow doesn’t go
it gets saved
BIO / Born in Badajoz, Extremadura, Juan Carlos graduated in 2022 from L’École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque (ESAC) in Brussels and completed the Master’s course in Poetic Writing “La inspiración y la palabra” at the Escuela de Escritores in Madrid. Obsessed with form shaped by technique and poetic composition, and drawn to exploring physical limits, he is eagerly searching for a circus language he can call his own.
In February 2024, he published his first book Romero recién cortao (Letraversal), and Salar la pena is his first scenic creation. As a child, he was asked to write a poem to the Virgin. He is still trying.
