Don Baltha
Christian Padilla
THE PROJECT / Don Baltha is an autobiographical project that combines juggling with Afrosurrealism. It is based on the artist’s lived experience: as the only Black child in his school in Ecuador, he was systematically cast as King Balthazar throughout his childhood. From this experience of identity assignment, the artist questions the place of non-white artists within the contemporary cultural landscape.
Through a scenography that blends analog, digital, and electrical techniques, the project revisits a personal history to connect it with a collective one – aiming both to reclaim this narrative and to break free from it. The performance invites the audience to reflect on the formative experiences that build our identities.
BIO / L’Art Nak Company was founded in 2022 from the shared ambition of two circus artists, Christian Padilla (Quito, Ecuador) and Étienne Chauzy (Paris, France), to create performances that reflect their names and their unique vision.
Jugglers — but far more than that — the two artists master a wide range of practices: from circus to visual arts, including drawing, music, and electromechanics. This versatility lies at the heart of their identity, enables them to craft distinctive narratives, and delivering powerful and resonant messages.
By blending languages, arts, and cultures, L’Art Nak seeks to transform live performance into an immersive experience — a true celebration of diversity, inspired by personal experience.
