Hack the Circus

Handstand, aerial

In a post-apocalyptic future, three women survivors take refuge in a shelter filled with vegetation and electronic debris. A community forms between these women of different ages and languages, bound to gather what remains of the catastrophe. A low-tech science-fiction show that explores coexistence, memory, and forgetting.

Biography

A trapeze artist, actress and performer, Justine Bernachon-Irisarri has been working for over ten years as a performer with various companies at the crossroads of circus, theater and dance. She has collaborated with Compagnie Rasposo, Osmosis Dance, L’Éolienne, Éric Arnal Burtschy and Katalin Patkai.

Alongside this activity, she founded Farö Céleste Association to create working spaces dedicated to research combining text, objects and movement. In 2021, she created her first show, Ofelia Song, a solo piece exploring the representation of women’s bodies in art history. In 2023, she took part in a writing residency at Ardèche Images (Lussas, France), where she directed a documentary about her relationship with three older circus artists. Hack the Circus is her second creation.
